Jeff McDowell, Founder & President of McDowell Security
Jeff has worked in and around the security business since 1995. He served 14 years in the Army Reserve Military Police, worked as the director of Emergency Operations and Regional Vice President for a national security provider then opened McDowell Security in 2007. In 2010, he expanded his company to include contract security to help his clients manage events and property. Jeff studied Business Administration at both Jeff State Community College and the University of Alabama. He is currently pursuing his ASIS professional protection certification and is already a NRA “Refuse to be a Victim” certified instructor, an Alabama Security Regulatory Board Certified Security Trainer Level 1, and an International Foundation of Protection Officers - Certified Protection Officer. Jeff has served on the board of Blanket Fort Hope, a non-profit that is dedicated to helping children who have been victims of human trafficking. In addition, he is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, International Foundation of Protection Officers, Hoover Chamber and Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. His leadership has been recognized as being a Birmingham Business Journal Top 40 Under 40 and Fast Track 30 businesses. Candyce McDowell – Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Candyce has more than 10 years of banking experience and retail management experience prior to assuming her role with McDowell Security. She also serves as event manager for several of the company’s larger events.
Leon Slappey – Director of Operations
Leon manages the day-to-day supervision of staff at both events and business clients. He works with McDowell security guards to review client reports to ensure accuracy and talks to clients about what their needs are on an ongoing basis. He has been with the company over a year and relies heavily on his Air Force training (served 1992 – 2000 with multiple tours in the European theater) to help manage employees in his current position. In addition, he is a 15-year veteran Martial Arts instructor. In the corporate setting, he spent an additional 15 years as a power plant operator for a large private power company in Central Alabama. His diverse background and skill sets make him perfect to cope with the ever-changing demands of the security industry.
Adrian Jacobs – Compliance Manager
Adrian has been with the company for almost two years. She handles getting all the company’s guards ASRB licensed, along with managing new hire paperwork and orientation. She ensures employees are following company procedures and guidelines and also manages payroll.
Caitlin Clark – Office Manager
Caitlin joined McDowell Security last year and manages accounts payable, receivables and, also helps manage HR responsibilities with Adrian. She has an extensive background in customer service which makes her the perfect smiling face to great those who visit the office.
Allen Harrika- Business Development
Allen recently joined McDowell Security from another well-known security firm. He has more than 30 years of sales experience covering six states. He was awarded Honorary Deputy Sheriff by Jefferson County Sheriff Mel Bailey during his tenure and has also served as a personal bodyguard to the Ambassador of Lebanon during their visit to Birmingham. He also served on the City of Birmingham Zoning Board (8 years) during Mayor Richard Arrington’s term in office.
Christen Henry – Scheduling Coordinator
As scheduling coordinator, Christen is responsible for making the schedule and matching guards to the appropriate location. She meets with new clients to go over their needs and schedules and interviews potential new personnel.
